Big Weekend – Big Wins

Seldom over one weekend has so many vital SKB National Cup and League fixtures been down for decision and it turned out to be a really successful one with a 100% return in the National Cups and vital points were gathered both in the Schoolboy and Senior sections.

Our 13 Premier set up a potential clash against our NDSL 13 Premier side by virtue of a comprehensive 6-0 home win over Aisling Annacotty in the SFAI Troy Cup. 0-0 at the break – an early second half goal from Ciaran Behan was followed by further goals from Dawson Devoy, Deiric Hyland, Behan again, Ryan Cassidy and Jack Kelly. The all SKB quarter final will come about if George Doyle’s NDSL 13 Premier defeat Mount Merrion in their last 16 game.

On Saturday afternoon our 15 Premier made the long trip to Waterford to play Carrick United in the SFAI Evans Cup and moved to the quarter final with a workman like display to come home with a 2-0 win.

A wonderful 30 yard strike from Calvin Madden saw our 18 Super team move in to the semi final of the FAI Youth Cup when they defeated Iorras Aontaithe from Mayo at Shanowen Road, the score line could have been greater as they spurned numerous chances throughout the game and almost let the visitors equalize on one or two occassions but at this stage of the competition a win is a win.

The same can definitely be said of the outcome of the SFAI Barry Cup game between our 16 Premier and Herbertstown from Limerick which featured 5 goals in the opening twenty minutes. The visitors also had a goal disallowed for off side and missed a penalty and it was 3-3 entering the last quarter before Ross Nally with his second goal of the game scored what turned out to be the winner. The other scorers were Luke Slater and Jamie Gray.

On the Schoolboy League front there were important wins for our 12 Premier 2-1 away to Belvedere F C. Our 10A Saturday and Sunday defeated Home Farm F C and Cherry Orchard F C 5-1 and 5-2 respectively. There were wins also for the 14.2 5-3 at home to Phoenix, 10.2 Saturday 5-2 home to Malahide United and 11.2 Saturday 4-0 at home to Mount Merrion F C.

In the Senior Section Keith McCracken scored two vital goals for the Senior Saturday side as they defeated Ballymun United 2-1 away in an important game at the foot of the Senior Saturday Section.

For the second time this season our AUL Premier A took points from the leaders Kilbarrack United this time a 0-0 draw away and this vital point will go a long way towards ensuring our Premier A status for next season.
