(3) Top Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF were the opponents in the quarter final which again has a quick turn time scheduled for 6.30pm (local time) this evening.
Unfortunately it was a bridge too far with the stylish Spanish outfit running out convincing winners on a 5-1 score line.
The tournament was a great experience for the players and management as the opposition they encountered against the top Spanish La Liga Academy teams is a step above what the meet on a weekly basis and is an indication of the level that players need to reach if they hope to have a career in the game.
(2) The final group game was early this afternoon against Cleo Junior Selection which resulted in a comfortable 3-0 and a place in the last 16 of the tournament.
The postponement of games from Thursday and yesterday resulted in a much tighter schedule today and just a two hour turnaround before the last 16 game against CE Hospitalet.
This was a much closer tighter affair with neither side managing a breakthrough in normal time and the penalty shoot out saw the lads score all three penalties to move into the quarter final on a 3-2 score line.
(1) Flight delays and games postponements due to a status RED weather warning of high winds and heavy rain was the backdrop to our Under 13 premier teams participation in this years Carnaval Cup in Barcelona – an important tournament that we have participated in for the past 12 years.
They played their opening two games today and remain unbeaten with an 8-0 win over C E Cambrils and a well deserved 1-1 draw against FC Barcelona.
Photo shows both teams together at the end of the game – the conditions speak for themselves!!
Continued good luck to the squad and management group Joe Quinn, Paul O’Brien and Darren Dunne.
