Information on Girl’s football

Trial News

Over 800 players have so far attended this years SKB trials which conclude this evening.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to offer football to all of those who attended as our resources in terms of manpower are currently stretched to the limit.

The number of people who came forward to volunteer following appeals at the trials was disappointing but we are extremely grateful to those who have answered the call.

We are always on the look-out for managers and coaches to help us – for further information please e-mail; admin@skbfc.com

A final decision on the number of SKB teams which will participate in League football next season will be made in the coming days.

Strictly Come Dancing A Huge Success

The St Kevin’s Boys Strictly Come Dancing was a definite success on Saturday night at the Crowne Plaza. It was great to see such a huge turnout of Club members and friends and they were all impressed with the quality of the show. Great credit is due to all the dancers for the effort that they put in over the preceding weeks of hard training – the show proved that all the hard work and dedication payed off as could be seen by the standard of dancing on the night.

Congratulations to Andy McKenna Junior and Aisling Daly on their stunning performance which ultimately gained them 1st place in the competition.

Well done to all who took part and thanks to the organizing committee who worked tirelessly to get this show off the ground.

Season Comes To An End

Two events over the weekend finally brought the curtain down on the 2013/2014 season.

Our first team lined up in the final of the Liddy Cup on Saturday afternoon in the AUL Complex.

SKB started the better of the two teams and had chances before Sheriff took the lead against the general run of play through Darren Dunne, just a minute later Sheriff were two up from a Keith Dunne header.

The game looked dead and buried soon after when Darren Dunne added his second and Sheriff’s third but SKB to their credit kept pushing on and got their reward through a Stephen Cantwell goal after he rounded the keeper and slotted in before the half time break.

SKB were given renewed hope in the second half when Sheriff were reduced to 10 men following Stephen Murphy’s sending off. However as has been shown many times before, a numerical disadvantage served to embolden Sheriff and they went on to add a fourth through Alan McCabe to slot home.

SKB kept up the fight and pulled one back though a fineStephen Cantwell header from Ciaran McGrath’s cross but it was not enough.

SKB: A. Hannon, R. Coombes, C. McGrath, P. Ellis, G. McCabe, R. Pearson, G. Rayner, B. O’Reilly, S. Cantwell, I. Ivory, S. Doyne,

Subs: K. McCracken, A. O’Neill and J. Farry

Jeff Hendrick was our special guest at the Club presentation on Sunday in the Regency Hotel. All teams who were in receipt of cups and medals were represented and special awards were made to five SKB Schoolboy players who have joined UK Clubs over the past few months: Anto Dolan (Fulham), Graham Kelly (Sheffield United), Robert McCourt (WBA), Daniel Mandriou (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Trevor Clarke (Middlesboro).

Ex SKB Player Conor Dillon Signs For Glenavon

Former SKB player and current Irish Junior International Conor Dillon has been signed by Northern Ireland Premiership side Glenavon FC.

Dillon is a classy defender who was also hugely impressive in Ireland’s victorious Quadrangular Tournament campaign and his performances have earned him a move into the semi-professional ranks with current Irish Cup champions Glenavon.

The 24 year old is expected to make his debut against Crumlin United on Tuesday night in the first of Glenavon’s pre-season games. If he impresses he could be in line to play in the Europa League after the Glenavon were drawn away to FH Hafnarfjördur of Iceland, with the first leg to be played on the 3rd of July.

Glenavon manager Gary Hamilton remarked “He’s strong in the air and has pace which we were lacking in the defence last season.”

Fantastic Treble For 16 Premier

Last night our 16 Premier completed a treble for this season by adding the DDSL Under 16 Premier League title to the SFAI Barry Cup and DDSL McGrath Cup titles already won but those statistics barely portray the enormous achievement of the players and managers of this group in that they have had to play 14 high pressured games over the past two months with absolutely no room for error – a draw in any of their ten League games during that period would have handed the League to Malahide United. In lots of those games they have had to deal with sendings off (some times more than one in a game), coming from behind and all the while continuing to play some of the best attacking football of any team in the Club. While this group has always been blessed with good players that hasn’t always shown in a tangeable way with Cup or League successes, last year they were DDSL Under 15 Premier League runners up but certainly the management team of Elliot Morgan, Joe Byrne and Alan Doody have had a galvanizing effect and the effort that the players continue to put in has been rewarded. We hope to build on this success going forward into next season at Under 17 level but we will have to do so without three of this years squad – team Captain Trevor Clarke is signing for Middlesboro, Robert McCourt is going to West Bromwich Albion and Daniel Mandriou is bound for Brighton and Hove Albion. We wish them the best of luck as they embark on the next stage of their football career and a presentation will be made to them to mark their departure at the Club’s presentation on June 29th at 12 noon in the Regency Hotel, Swords Road.

18’s Win DDSL Super League

On Friday night at Shanowen Road our 18 Super (1996’s) got the 3 points they needed in a 6-3 win over Crumlin United and thereby clinched the DDSL 18 Super League. Our 1996’s have won the DDSL Premier League at every age group from 11 Premier (under 11 was 11 a side at that time) to under 18. Although a lot of the players who started out at under 11 are no longer at the Club some having moved on to careers in football it is still a great achievement and as far as the record books are concerned unprecedented. Great credit is due to all the players and managers/coaches down through the years for the high standards that they maintained and improved upon over the years.

Our under 16 Premier are one game away from achieving a treble having come from behind to beat perennial rivals Templeogue United 2-1 at Shanowen Road with Sean Maguire scoring both goals. The last game of the season takes place tomorrow night June 10th at 7pm in Shanowen against Home Farm F C.

13’s DDSL Premier League Winners & 16’s & 18’s Nearly There Too

The DDSL Under 13 Premier League was won in great style last night as our 13 Premier overcame their closest rivals Belvedere FC 2-1 to add this years league crown to last years win at Under 12 level and complete a League and All Ireland Troy Cup double – not to mention second place behind Ajax in this years Academy Cup. Great credit and congratulations to all the players and the management team of Paudie O’Sullivan, Paul O’Dwyer, Gareth McMullen and Frank Loftus.

Our 16 Premier continued their recent great run with a 1-0 away win at Home Farm last night, they continue their League challenge and the pursuit of a treble for the season when they play Templeogue United on Sunday at Shanowen Road at 11.00m.

Shanowen Road on Friday night at 7.00pm sees our 18 Super strive to overcome the disappointment of last weeks Leinster Youths Cup defeat and add the DDSL Under 18 Super League title to the clubs cabinet when they play Crumlin United.

Our 11 B1 Sun needed a win last Friday night against Dundrum Athletic to win the DDSL 11 B1 Sunday League while the draw would have given them a play off for the League with Portmarnock but they were left to rue some missed chances going down 1-0 at Shanowen Road and they finished in 3rd place with the title going to Dundrum Athletic.  The final standing places indicate just how tight this league race was:

1 Dundrum Athletic 10 7 2 1 23
2 Portmarnock Afc 10 7 1 2 22
3 St Kevins Boys 10 7 0 3 21
4 Leicester Celtic 10 3 1 6 10
5 Marino Fc 10 2 3 5 9
6 Ballymun Utd 10 0 1 9 1

Our first team end of season run of form continued as they reached the final of the AUL Liddy Cup following a 0-0 draw after extra time and an 8-7 penalty shoot out win over Donnycarney United at the AUL Complex on Friday night.  Their opponents in the final from the other half of the draw will come from East Wall Bessborough, St Pauls Artane, Sherriff YC and Trinity Donaghmede.

Both of our sides involved in the Leinster Youth Cup semi finals over the weekend were knocked out – the 18’s 1-3 at home to Cherry Orchard and the 17’s 1-2 away to Dundalk F C.

This years FAI Under 17 player of the year and former SKB star Jack Byrne made his debut at the weekend for the Irish Under 21 team in their 1-1 draw with Qatar in a friendly in Aachan in Germany, despite being the youngest in the squad he distinguished himself with his performance and looks assured to figure prominently with the Under 21’s for the next few years.

Current Irish International and former SKB player Jeff Hendrick of Derby County just missed out on promotion to the Premiership when they were defeated by a last minute goal by QPR in the Championship play off at Wembley on Saturday no doubt Jeff will be anxious to put that behind him over the next ten days when he is part of the full Irish International squad to play Italy Portugal and Cost Rica in end of season friendlies.
