Memorable Weekend For St Kevin’s Boys Club

In the long and distuinguished history of SKB the weekend of May 17th / 18th 2014 will be remembered as another great landmark as no fewer than four major titles were won by the Tangerine and Black -3 National SFAI Cups – the Troy Cup at Under 13 the Evans Cup at Under 15 and the Barry Cup for the first time at Under 16 along with the DDSL Under 12 Premier League title.

This is the first time in the Club’s history that three SFAI Cups have been won in the one season although in 2012 also we won three National titles – the under 11 Menton Seery Cup, under 13 Troy Cup and the FAI under 17 Cup.

Our Under 16 Premier team created their own piece of SKB history today as they became the first team from the club to win the SFAI Barry Cup when they defeated St Brendans Park from Tralee in the final at a rain drenched Jackson Park Kiltiernan. The Kerry side were formidable opponents and looked dangerous at times before Ross Nally opened the scoring with a spectacular volley – which went in off the post despite an excellent attempt to save it by the Brendans goalkeeper – from Neville Keegans cross midway through the first half. Luke Wade-Slater almost marked his introduction with a goal from his first touch early in the second half when his diving header from a Trevor Clarke was just off target. Clarke was to have the final say in the game though as Brendans threw more and more men forward opportunities arose and in the second minute of injury time he finished well from 12 yards to clinch a famous win.

The Troy Cup comes back to the Club for the first time since the 2011 / 2012 season thanks to a fine 3-0 win over Crumlin United at Jackson Park. Jack Kelly scored the first with a stunning drive in the first half and Dawson Devoy added a second when he scored from close range in the first minute of the second half and he added his second soon after with a great strike from the edge of the box.

It’s 2007 / 2008 – the Hendrick Brady Wearen era – since the SFAI Evans Under 15 cup was won by SKB and today despite going a goal down early in the game to Belvedere they recovered well to dominate the rest of the game and in the process record their third National SFAI Cup in a row. Evan Pierce scored twice – once in each half – either side of a Mikey Cregan header and only for some superb goalkeeping by Belvedere’s Paul Martin the margin would have been greater.

A great end of season run of wins by our 12 Premier saw them retain the DDSL Under 12 League title for the club with a 3-0 win over Crumlin United at Shanowen Road. Roland Idowu Jamie Farrell and Ross Molloy were the scorers in a comprehensive win.
