Season Comes To An End

Two events over the weekend finally brought the curtain down on the 2013/2014 season.

Our first team lined up in the final of the Liddy Cup on Saturday afternoon in the AUL Complex.

SKB started the better of the two teams and had chances before Sheriff took the lead against the general run of play through Darren Dunne, just a minute later Sheriff were two up from a Keith Dunne header.

The game looked dead and buried soon after when Darren Dunne added his second and Sheriff’s third but SKB to their credit kept pushing on and got their reward through a Stephen Cantwell goal after he rounded the keeper and slotted in before the half time break.

SKB were given renewed hope in the second half when Sheriff were reduced to 10 men following Stephen Murphy’s sending off. However as has been shown many times before, a numerical disadvantage served to embolden Sheriff and they went on to add a fourth through Alan McCabe to slot home.

SKB kept up the fight and pulled one back though a fineStephen Cantwell header from Ciaran McGrath’s cross but it was not enough.

SKB: A. Hannon, R. Coombes, C. McGrath, P. Ellis, G. McCabe, R. Pearson, G. Rayner, B. O’Reilly, S. Cantwell, I. Ivory, S. Doyne,

Subs: K. McCracken, A. O’Neill and J. Farry

Jeff Hendrick was our special guest at the Club presentation on Sunday in the Regency Hotel. All teams who were in receipt of cups and medals were represented and special awards were made to five SKB Schoolboy players who have joined UK Clubs over the past few months: Anto Dolan (Fulham), Graham Kelly (Sheffield United), Robert McCourt (WBA), Daniel Mandriou (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Trevor Clarke (Middlesboro).
