On Saturday next (22/03) Carrick Utd Under 15’s welcome one of the heavyweights of Irish schoolboy football to Tom Drohan Park, when St Kevin’s Boys from the Dublin District League are their opponents in the last 16 tie. This opportunity for the Carrick boys to test themselves against top class opposition arrives after four very tough victories in previous rounds.
After receiving a bye in the first round the campaign got underway with a tough local derby against Portlaw. No Carrick team ever got anything easy in “The Paddock” and after going 1-0 down, Carrick turned it around in the second half and eventually ran out 5-1 winners.
The third draw saw South Tipp outfit St Michaels visit Tom Drohan Park, where Carrick raced into an early 2-0 lead only for a well organised St Michaels side fight back to lead 3-2 with only minutes remaining, a late equaliser saw the game go to extra time and the penalties! After sudden death, Carrick won this pulsating cup tie 8-7.
As reward for overcoming St Michaels, Carrick were drawn away to Kilkenny Side, Freebooters, in Buckley Park. Again Carrick found themselves behind early on, but the ability to dig deep and never give up saw Carrick battle to a hardfought 3-1 victory.
The last 32 draw saw us given a very tough away draw to New Bridge Town, in Kildare. Conditions were very tough on both teams and after a very entertaining end to end game Carrick edged it by one goal to nil.
Our opponents next week have a very well deserved reputation as one of Irelands best schoolboy clubs having provided Irish Internationals at every level for many years, but Carrick Utd fancy their chances of causing a major upset, especially in their own backyard!
This promises to be a very special day for this young Carrick team and we would urge the Carrick people to get behind them and support the boys next Saturday, anything can happen in cup football, that’s what’s so exciting about watching it live. So don’t miss the chance to watch your local club do battle with a legendary Dublin club.

There will be a triple header of National Cup Ties at Shanowen Road next Saturday and Sunday as the cup competitions enter the last decisive rounds.

On Saturday at 2.00pm our under 13 Premier fresh from their fine 2-0 away win over Belvedere in the previous round now welcome Aisling Annacotty to Shanowen in the last 16 of the SFAI Troy Cup. No SKB team have ever found the Limerick side easy to overcome and another tight exciting tie is in prospect.
