Results From The Weekend

The last weekend of football before Christmas was a good one with important wins for teams at all ages throughout the Club.

On Saturday at Shanowen Road our 14 Premier recovered well from last weeks unlucky defeat to Cherry Orchard to score a 2 – 0 win over Malahide United in a close fought game – Brian Mc Manus and Dawson Devoy scored first half goals but Malahide were the dominant team in the second half forcing Cian Clarke into a couple of excellent saves. Earlier on Saturday morning our 12 Premier had a 4 – 1 win over St Malachys. Our 12.3 maintain their unbeaten record at the top of the DDSL 12 A League with a 2 – 1 home win over Verona F C and our 10A were 4 – 3 winners away to Crumlin United.

A 1 – 0 away win at Rathcoole Boys sees our 17 Major 1 at the top of their League table going into the Christmas break and our 18 Super had a welcome 5 – 0 win at home to Tolka Rovers.

In the Leinster Youths Cup Ross Nally scored a hat trick away to Johnstown F C at the Meath & District Leagues complex in Navan yesterday – Jamie Gray and Jason Groves were the other two scorers in an impressive performance.

There were League wins yesterday for our 11.5 (1 – 0) v Esker Celtic at home, our 12.6 and 11.1 both drew against Lakelands (1-1) and St Josephs Boys (2-2) respectively.

The 16 Premier team had to come from behind in the final twenty minutes to maintain their 100% League record with a 5-2 away win against Mountview Boys, our 16 Major and 16 NDSL Premier had League wins over Castleknock Celtic (3-0) and Laytown United (2-0) while our other under 16 team drew 0-0 at home to Cabinteely in the DDSL A League.

In the DDSL 15 A League we also occupy top spot which was confirmed with a 6-2 away win against Greystones United while our 14 NDSL Premier continue their unbeaten run with a 2-0 win away to Portmarnock in the NDSL Mc Kenna Cup.

Goals from Ross Harrison and Stephen Cantwell put our 1st team 2 up inside the first fifteen minutes of their AUL Premier A home tie against Donneycarney United at Shanowen Road – they went further ahead before half-time with Cantwell scoring his second from the penalty spot but Donneycarney rallied well in the second half but could not pull back the defecit and a welcome 3 points were secured with a 3-2 win.

THE Republic of Ireland U18 head coach Paul Doolin has named his squad to play two friendly internationals against Portugal next week.

Doolin’s charges will meet the Portuguese in Abrantes next Tuesday, December 16, then meet the same opponents on Thursday, December 18, in Bonitos. Both games will kick-off at 3.00pm.

“This is a similar opportunity to what we had with the current U19 squad when we started with them in a couple of under-18 games in the Czech Republic earlier this year,” said Doolin.

“That was a great exercise and this is also important for us to see the players first hand and to work with them. The clubs have stopped some players from coming with us but that’s not surprising as it’s not a FIFA week and you’ll always lose some in that situation.

“But I think it’s a decent squad we’ll have us with some good home-based players too. Portugal will be tough so we should learn a lot about the squad.

“As far as we’re concerned it’s about next year’s U19s primarily but if players can do the things that we want from them both attacking wise and defensively I think it’ll be a useful exercise.”

5 Goals For Gavin Doyle….

Highlight of our 14 Premier NDSL 7 – 0 Goodson Cup fourth round win over Woodlawn Sportslink was Gavin Doyle’s five goal scoring spree as the home side proved far too good in this game that was played at Shanowen Road yesterday – Jack Bolton and Harry Dunne were the other two scorers.

Our hold on the SFAI Barry Cup was surrendered by our 16 DDSL Premier who were disappointing in their defeat by main rivals Belvedere F C (2 – 1) at Shanowen Road.  They were left to rue a couple of missed chances and were undone by a goal from a set piece and a deflective shot which put Belvedere 2 – 0 up with ten minutes to go, Mikey Cregan produced an excellent piece of skill and a class finish to pull a goal back almost immediately but they left themselves with too much to do against a hard working focused Belvedere side.

Jack Funge scored the only goal in our 13 Premier DDSL Brady Cup win at Leixlip in a close encounter that went to extra time while our 17 Super were too good for Cabinteely F C in the third round of the FAI Under 17 Cup winning 5 – 1 away.  Our 18 Super were defeated in the Leinster Youth Cup away to Belvedere F C.

The dismissal of Ryan Cassidy on a straight red card after only five minutes was the turing point in our DDSL 24 Premier’s 1 – 0 defeat at home on Saturday by League leaders Cherry Orchard F C in a game where the other ten players strove manfully for over an hour in a game which they deserved at least a draw from.

Inter League Squads Full Of SKB Players

The recent series of games in the FAI Youth Inter League Trophy saw a host of players from SKB’s Under 17 and 18 Super teams represent the DDSL and the AUL.

Last Saturday night at Richmond Road the DDSL defeated the NDSL 2-1 in a close fought encounter which featured no fewer than 8 SKB players in the wimnning squad; Jamie Gray, Eoin Morgan, Ross Nally, Darragh Roycroft, Luke Wade-Slater, Conor Keane, Jason Groves and Liam Brady. The win came at a cost with Ross Nally sustaining a broken nose and Luke Wade-Slater having eight stitches in a nasty head wound.

The previous week Darren Lyng, James Browne, Jeff Rafter, Paul McMahon, Ross Kyle, Kyle Scully, Lee Partridge and Aaron McFadden represented the AUL – managed by Elliot Morgan and Donie Bermingham – against the Kildare League but went down 4-2 to end their interest in this years competition.

First team captain Paddy Brophy led the AUL Oscar Traynor Trophy team to their second victory in this years group games when they defeated the Wicklow League 4-0 yesterday at the Carlisle Grounds with former SKB players Alan Talbot (3) and Martin Moore scoring the goals.

12’s & 13’s Move On In SFAI Cups – 14’s Out

Despite having the lions share of possession our 14 DDSL Premier team could not find a way past a dogged Drogheda Boys outfit who defended in depth from start to finish. Seventy minutes play and twenty more of extra time failed to produce a goal before the visitors put away their first five penalties with well placed efforts that Cian Clarke could do nothing about and while we scored four it was not enough to avoid a shock defeat at this early stage of the tournament. Its disappointing that both the 13 & 14 DDSL Premier sides are out of the National Cups in similar circumstances in games that were there for the taking.

On a brighter note our 12 Premier travelled to Drogheda Boys and moved into the next round of the SFAI Danone Cup with a comprehensive 6-2 win while our 13 NDSL Premier team for the second week running found Shanowen Road to their liking when they overcame Blaney Academy 4-0 in the SFAI Troy Cup.

St Pauls Artane defeated our 18 Super team 3-2 in the FAI Youth Cup at the College of Surgeons while the 16 Premier Barry Cup and the 14 NDSL Goodson Cup ties were cancelled.

A fine hat trick by Daniel Bergin in an 8 minute spell in the first half – the last one a sublime chip over the keeper –
was the highlight of our 10A Sunday’s 3-3 draw against Home Farm at the College of Surgeons.

Finding themselves 4-0 down after 20 minutes our 15 Premier DDSL team rallied gamely inspired by a brilliant Jack Ryan free kick but ran out of time to surrender their unbeaten record this season 3-4 to St Francis in an excellent game at Shanowen Road on Saturday and they might have snatched a deserved draw at the death when Lido Lotefa’s header came back off the crossbar.

Our Under 15 DDSL A team advanced in the DDSL Cox Cup 8-0 at the expense of Firhouse Carmel while there were good League wins on Saturday for our 12 Major (5-1 Cabinteely) 12 A (7-0 Mount Merrion) 10 A (4-1 Lourdes Celtic) 11 A (9-0 Crumlin United) and 14 B (3-0 Leixlip United).

1st Team Out Of LJC & Other Weekend Results So Far

Spurning numerous gilt edged chances including a penalty kick which struck the post our Premier A team could not pull back a 2 nil deficit which CIE Ranch had built up by virtue of an early second half goal in the 3rd round Leinster Junior Cup tie at Shanowen Road this afternoon. The visitors were reduced to ten men 15 minutes into the second half by which time they were 2 up and Stephen Cantwell’s goal six minutes from time turned out to be a consolation score.

Our NDSL 14 Premier side travelled to Dromin United in County Louth this morning and had a fine 3-1 win in the SFAI Goodson Cup third round with goals from Gavin Doyle Alex Cetner and Ola Oliwange.

Our NDSL 13 Premier side scored an impressive 2-0 win over Maynooth Town in the 3rd round of the SFAI Troy Cup at Shanowen Road this morning. In command throughout they led at half time with goals from Ethan Delaney and James Foy and only the crossbar and some excellent saves from the Maynooth Town goalkeeper stopped that scoreline being extended in the second half.

A 35th minute equaliser from James McManus gave our Under 10A Sunday a deserved draw away to Belvedere FC this morning in a tight game of few clear cut chances to either side, Belvedere had just taken the lead minutes before James’s shot took a slight deflection and ended up in the net.

In the only other SKB game played this weekend our 10C Sunday scored an impressive 7-0 away win at St Pauls Artane.

Ringsend Rovers 1 – SKB Senior Saturday 4 was the outcome on Friday night at the Ringsend Astro as goals from Josh Peyton, Jordan Farry, Andy McKenna and Chris McDonnell ensured that our AUL Senior Saturday side made it into round 4 of this seasons Leinster Junior Cup.

Two SFAI Cup Wins At Shanowen

With both the DDSL and the NDSL calling all League and League Cup games off this weekend the only two SKB fixtures to survive were at Shanowen Road this morning where our Under 15 Premier side played Drogheda Boys in the SFAI Evans Cup and the SFAI Under 12 Danone Cup tie between our 12 Premier side and Leixlip United.

A goal in each half from Lido Lotefa – the first from a corner on the right and the second a neat finish when the Drogheda goalkeeper spilled a drive from Gavin Kilkenny – was enough to send the 15’s into the next round.

Our 12 Premier scored a facile 8-0 win over Leixlip United to advance in the SFAI Danone Cup where both strikers Ruari Kinsella and Dylan Quinn were in top scoring form Ruari hitting four while Dylan hit three with Eoin Heavy making up the tally.
