Byrne & Stokes Success With Irish Under 15’s

Scotland 0 Republic of Ireland 2

THE Republic of Ireland U15 side wrapped up their programme for the season with an impressive 2-0 victory over Scotland at East End Park, Dunfermline, today.

First half goals from West Ham’s Anthony Scully and Thomas Byrne of St Kevin’s Boys FC sealed the win for Colin O’Brien’s side.

Scully found the net in the 14th minute after excellent build-up play for the Irish through midfield.

Byrne added the second goal in the 39th minute with an excellent strike from outside the box.

“It was a very pleasing performance. Again we produced a very good first half display – especially a 25 minute period where we built up the play very well,” said O’Brien.

“We scored two good goals with some excellent attacking play but with a bit more composure we may have scored one or two more before the break.

“Scotland had a bit of control in the second half and got into our half using direct play and direct running. Our keeper Ian Giltinan made a couple of good saves late on. The players had to defend well.

“We didn’t create as many chances after the break as we did in the first half but we made changes for this game and the players all acquitted themselves very well.”

O’Brien’s side beat the Scots 3-2 on Monday and overall he is delighted with how the squad performed in Scotland and over the season as a whole.

“It’s been a very pleasing week. The players all got further opportunities to play for their country and add to their experience,” he said.

Ryan Robinson Leads Irish Under 18’s To Victory In Czech Republic

Czech Republic 0 Republic of Ireland 2

REPUBLIC of Ireland U18 Head Coach Paul Doolin has hailed his young squad after their impressive 2-0 friendly victory over Czech Republic in Libcice nad Vltauou. The team in this game was captained by ex SKB’s Ryan Robinson and also included former SKB players in Sean Heaney, Dylan Kavanagh and Philip Gannon (who was injured for this game).

Goals by Cobh Ramblers striker Ryan Goldsmith and West Bromwich Albion’s Jack Hallahan helped claim the victory.

Ireland’s preparations were hampered by an injury to starting keeper Peter Burke in the warm-up but Harry Doherty stepped in and produced an accomplished display.

The Irish went ahead on 29 minutes when Goldsmith found the net with a brilliant left-footed free kick.

Hallahan wrapped up the scoring in the 89th minute when he produced a clever finish after an excellent Irish move.

“It was a very good performance. The goals we conceded on Tuesday weren’t great but I knew it would be tough as we only met the lads on Saturday whereas the Czechs have a full programme and meet four times a month,” said Doolin.

“It was a fantastic result and very good to keep a clean sheet. We scored two fantastic goals from Ryan Goldsmith and Jack Hallahan.

“We came here not knowing much about opposition but we did very well. The defending was excellent Dylan Barnett, Jamie Mulhall and Sean Heaney all did well – everybody worked very hard and we had to deal with their physicality. They were aggressive and strong.

“It’s a fantastic result. It’s incredible how much access the Czechs have with their U18s. The Czechs had periods of domination in the first half but we put in a very good display. It’s been a decent week.”

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Harry Doherty (Charlton Athletic),Dylan Barnett (Brighton & Hove Albion), Sean Heaney (Shamrock Rovers), Chris Flanagan (Finn Harps), Harry Charsley (Everton), Jack Bayly (St Patrick’s Athletic), Jamie Mulhall (Longford Town), Joel Coustrain (Sheffield United), Daryll Power (Wexford Youths AFC), Ryan Robinson (Shelbourne FC), Ryan Goldsmith (Cobh Ramblers). SKB Players On Ireland Duty

Last week saw five SKB players involved in the Irish under 17 International squad they finished their UEFA Championships Elite Qualifying Round fixtures with a 2-2 draw with Georgia in Belgrade yesterday.

Tom Mohan’s side exit the tournament pleased to pick up a point after defeats against Serbia and Germany but disappointed not to return with all three points from this fixture.

Ireland led 2-0 with five minutes left but in the testing 27C heat they were caught by two late Georgian strikes and had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Nathan Corkery had headed Ireland in front in the 23rd minute when he got his head to a Tom Holland corner.

Mohan’s side looked to have sealed the victory in the 75th minute when Shelbourne’s Adam McDonnell produced a stunning strike from 25-yards to fire home after good work by Holland, Anto Breslin and Conor Masterson in the build-up.

Unfortunately for the Irish Georgia pulled one back just two minutes later when Giorgi Kiknadze smashed home from distance and then two minutes into injury-time the game was levelled when Irakli Kamladze finished off a counter-attack by slipping the ball under the advancing Connor.

Shane Elworthy was unfortunate not to snatch a dramatic winner for Ireland less than a minute later but keeper Kurdadze made a block and the ball was cleared to safety.

“The result probably sums up the week for us because the players definitely deserved to win the game. The first half display was brilliant – they played really well and created numerous chances,” said Mohan.

Serbia drew with Germany in the other game in Group Six. The Germans will top the group to progress to the final in Malta and Mohan believes his side showed up well in a very testing group.

“The boys played really well. It’s been a hell of an experience for them. They’ve witnessed the cruelty of the game but they can be proud of they performed.

“It’s been a tough week but I could have asked more from the players and staff who all worked extremely hard.”

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Connor, Breslin, Kane, Holland, Best, McDonnell, Elworthy, Poynton (c), Kinsella (Masterson 54), Corkery (Dolan 57), Devers.

GEORGIA: Kurdadze; Kobuladze, Kakiashvili, Nadaraia, Goshteliani, Beridze (Gaprindashvili 64), Jobava, Arabidze (Kiknadze 41), Mikeltadze (Murjikneli 76), Tvaradze, Kamladze.

Big Weekend – Big Wins

Seldom over one weekend has so many vital SKB National Cup and League fixtures been down for decision and it turned out to be a really successful one with a 100% return in the National Cups and vital points were gathered both in the Schoolboy and Senior sections.

Our 13 Premier set up a potential clash against our NDSL 13 Premier side by virtue of a comprehensive 6-0 home win over Aisling Annacotty in the SFAI Troy Cup. 0-0 at the break – an early second half goal from Ciaran Behan was followed by further goals from Dawson Devoy, Deiric Hyland, Behan again, Ryan Cassidy and Jack Kelly. The all SKB quarter final will come about if George Doyle’s NDSL 13 Premier defeat Mount Merrion in their last 16 game.

On Saturday afternoon our 15 Premier made the long trip to Waterford to play Carrick United in the SFAI Evans Cup and moved to the quarter final with a workman like display to come home with a 2-0 win.

A wonderful 30 yard strike from Calvin Madden saw our 18 Super team move in to the semi final of the FAI Youth Cup when they defeated Iorras Aontaithe from Mayo at Shanowen Road, the score line could have been greater as they spurned numerous chances throughout the game and almost let the visitors equalize on one or two occassions but at this stage of the competition a win is a win.

The same can definitely be said of the outcome of the SFAI Barry Cup game between our 16 Premier and Herbertstown from Limerick which featured 5 goals in the opening twenty minutes. The visitors also had a goal disallowed for off side and missed a penalty and it was 3-3 entering the last quarter before Ross Nally with his second goal of the game scored what turned out to be the winner. The other scorers were Luke Slater and Jamie Gray.

On the Schoolboy League front there were important wins for our 12 Premier 2-1 away to Belvedere F C. Our 10A Saturday and Sunday defeated Home Farm F C and Cherry Orchard F C 5-1 and 5-2 respectively. There were wins also for the 14.2 5-3 at home to Phoenix, 10.2 Saturday 5-2 home to Malahide United and 11.2 Saturday 4-0 at home to Mount Merrion F C.

In the Senior Section Keith McCracken scored two vital goals for the Senior Saturday side as they defeated Ballymun United 2-1 away in an important game at the foot of the Senior Saturday Section.

For the second time this season our AUL Premier A took points from the leaders Kilbarrack United this time a 0-0 draw away and this vital point will go a long way towards ensuring our Premier A status for next season.

Upcoming Cup Ties

Under 15 SFAI (Last 16) St Kevin’s Boys v Carrick United
Extract from Carrick United’s Facebook Page

On Saturday next (22/03) Carrick Utd Under 15’s welcome one of the heavyweights of Irish schoolboy football to Tom Drohan Park, when St Kevin’s Boys from the Dublin District League are their opponents in the last 16 tie. This opportunity for the Carrick boys to test themselves against top class opposition arrives after four very tough victories in previous rounds.
After receiving a bye in the first round the campaign got underway with a tough local derby against Portlaw. No Carrick team ever got anything easy in “The Paddock” and after going 1-0 down, Carrick turned it around in the second half and eventually ran out 5-1 winners.
The third draw saw South Tipp outfit St Michaels visit Tom Drohan Park, where Carrick raced into an early 2-0 lead only for a well organised St Michaels side fight back to lead 3-2 with only minutes remaining, a late equaliser saw the game go to extra time and the penalties! After sudden death, Carrick won this pulsating cup tie 8-7.
As reward for overcoming St Michaels, Carrick were drawn away to Kilkenny Side, Freebooters, in Buckley Park. Again Carrick found themselves behind early on, but the ability to dig deep and never give up saw Carrick battle to a hardfought 3-1 victory.
The last 32 draw saw us given a very tough away draw to New Bridge Town, in Kildare. Conditions were very tough on both teams and after a very entertaining end to end game Carrick edged it by one goal to nil.
Our opponents next week have a very well deserved reputation as one of Irelands best schoolboy clubs having provided Irish Internationals at every level for many years, but Carrick Utd fancy their chances of causing a major upset, especially in their own backyard!
This promises to be a very special day for this young Carrick team and we would urge the Carrick people to get behind them and support the boys next Saturday, anything can happen in cup football, that’s what’s so exciting about watching it live. So don’t miss the chance to watch your local club do battle with a legendary Dublin club.

There will be a triple header of National Cup Ties at Shanowen Road next Saturday and Sunday as the cup competitions enter the last decisive rounds.

On Saturday at 2.00pm our under 13 Premier fresh from their fine 2-0 away win over Belvedere in the previous round now welcome Aisling Annacotty to Shanowen in the last 16 of the SFAI Troy Cup. No SKB team have ever found the Limerick side easy to overcome and another tight exciting tie is in prospect.

On Sunday Iorras Aontaithe from Mayo provide the opposition for our 18’s in the quarter final of the FAI Youth Cup at 11.00am which will be followed at 2.00pm by our 16 Premier facing Herbertstown from Limerick in the SFAI Barry Cup.

Weekend Report

Our under 10 A Saturday and Sunday teams got their first taste of tournament football when they travelled to take part in the inaugural Limerick I.T. – Aisling Annacotty Astro 8’s under 10 festival of football on Sunday at the Limerick Institute of Technology. Both teams were in seperate groups with group 1 comprising Aisling Annacotty, Corinthians Boys, Newbridge Town and SKB while group 2 contained Avenue United from Clare, Rockmount from Cork, Freebooters from Kilkenny and SKB. Having qualified for the semi finals both SKB teams faced one another in the first semi final which ended 1 – 1 with the Sunday team winning on penalties and they went on to win the final 2 – 1 against the home side Aisling Annacotty.

The SKB squads were: Squad 1 – David Corbett, Cian Darby, James McManus, Harvey Nugent, Luke Browne, Sean Phillips, Tadgh Lawlor, Jamie Kelly, Oisin Quinn, Sean Grehan and Callum Ralph.

Squad 2: Cameron Simpson, Craig Moore, Conor Rice, David Okergbuu, Keith Ross, Jamie Mullens, Callum Warren, Tadgh Walsh, Adam Coyle, Evan Ferguson and Eric Marku.

SKB Saturday 11A and SKB Saturday 11 A 1 produced an exciting DDSL quarter final cup tie on Saturday morning at the College of Surgeons with the A team getting through to the semi final on a 2-1 scoreline after a very close game. Our 12 Premier team exited the DDSL Kavanagh Cup following their 3-2 defeat in extra time at the hands of Shelbourne and we also relinquished our hold on the PFAI Under 17 Premier cup losing 4-0 to Crumlin United at the College of Surgeons on Sunday.

Also in the DDSL SSG cups over the weekend there were fine wins for the 11.2 Sunday (B1) 2-1 at home against Palmerstown F C and our 11.3 Saturday (B) 4-2 at home over Templeogue United. The DDSL quarter final under 11A cup tie away against Home Farm F C did not reach a conclusion as the referee abandoned the game following continued abuse from spectators on the home line.

Our first team’s run in the Leinster Junior Cup came to a halt on Sunday afternoon at Shanowen Road when they went down 4-1 to all conquering Sherriff United.
