DDSL CUP FINAL WINS FOR 12’s & 13’s

Congratulations to our under 12 premier team and to our under 13.6 squad who were the bright spots on an otherwise disappointing day at the DDSL Cup finals in the AUL Complex.

The 12’s took control of the DDSL Tom Kavanagh Cup final from the first whistle against Shamrock Rovers and were a goal up inside 45 seconds through Max Glogowski he added another soon after and they were 3 up when Jake Nolan scored.

Rovers pulled one back and had the chance to get another when the referee awarded them a penalty and added insult to injury by red carding Logan Blanche in the incident but Senan Kelly pulled off a brilliant stop from the spot kick and even with 8 players they saw the remaining 15 minutes out comfortably and added a forth goal through Charlie Nolan.

Hopefully the good form continues and the squad go on to complete a league and cup double in the next few weeks.

Squad; 1 Senan Kelly 2. Cooper Hennessy 3.Sammy Allen 4. Logan Blanche 5. Liam Keoghan 6. Ben Kelly 7. Kai Henshaw 8. Jake Kavanagh 9. Max Glogowski 10. Brody Coyle 11. Jack Caswell 12. Oli Shaa 13. Charlie Nolan 14. Sam Clarke 15. Theo Doyle 16. David Canning 20. Vlad Staver.

Staff; Dave Boyle, Louis Cassidy and Paul O’Brien.

Despite facing a team who are going well in a division above them the 13.6 team under the management of Graham Mooney, Mark Somers and Patrick Rattigan completed their own League and Cup double this evening when they defeated a fancied Broadford Rovers side 3-0 to add the DDSL Matty Landan Cup to their League title that they clinched last week.

They totally dominated this game from start to finish and were 3 up at half time through Charlie McEntee and two goals from Trayvon Akahomen and they had many more chances throughout to add to the score line.

There was disappointment for the 12 Major 1 team who came from behind to level against Cherry Orchard in the Tony Ryan Cup final and the game looked like heading for extra time but the concession of two injury time goals was a harsh reflection of the game overall.

Both the 14 and 15 premier teams suffered narrow defeats – 1-0 and 2-1 – respectively in their finals.

The 14 Sunday 1 cup final will take place next week – date and time to be confirmed.

The DDSL finals that SKFC were involved in were as follows;

 DDSL U12 Tom Kavanagh Cup final v Shamrock Rovers  Won 4-1

SKFC 12 PREMIER FINISH SECOND IN UK TOURNAMENT

The welcome break for players, managers and parents from local league and cup games at Easter gives teams the chance to travel to tournaments at home and abroad and experience different football cultures.

The Mare Nostrum Cup in Salou near Barcelona is the destination of our under 16 premier team for an Easter tournament against some top quality local opposition.

They recorded a win in their first game against San Martin 2-0 and that was followed by  1-1 draw against Teressa FC.

Promise Akinyemi scored their only goal in their third game of the tournament in a 1-0 win against Amigon FC.

Qualifying for the last 16 with those three results Promise was again on the scoresheet along with Alex Rafferty in a 2-1 win against Fundacio FC to set up a quarter final tie against Basque country side Lazkao FC.

In a close fought game a single goal was enough to give the Basque side victory.

Our under 9A visited the Leicester City Academy for games against the hosts and it  turned out to be a very successful exercise as excellent performances from all of the squad saw them win all four games in what was a great experience for the boys and the coaching staff.

The Pro Elite International Football Festival is where our under 12 premier team will be playing over the weekend starting tonight with a series of round robin friendly games from 6pm to 8pm at the tournament venue which is the University of Hertfordshire de Havilland Campus in Hatfield.

This group excelled in the Cryuff Tournament in Spain earlier this season and they will be hoping for a repeat of that form here.

Early results in the warm up games on Friday night were ;

SKFC 3 v Ultra Elite 0

SKFC 4  v Welwyn Garden City 0

SKFC  1 v  London Showcase 2

SKFC 2 v Stevenage FC 0

In the tournament proper which started today SKFC topped their group winning all three games against ;

Plymouth Argyle 1-0

Newport & District Schools 6-0

Supreme Football Academy 2-1.

Two further wins this morning against Norwich City 4-1 and AFC Wimbledon 2-0 saw our under 12 premier side reach the final of the competition but after a 2-2 draw after normal time against Peterborough United they were beaten on penalties.

Nonetheless it was an excellent performance by the squad over the weekend – one that they can take pride in.

 There were some very good English and continental clubs taking part and to come second – although disappointing – is a very fair achievement in what was an excellent and well organised competition.

Below is the list of teams taking part;

10’s ADD WIN IN CORDUFF TOURNAMENT TO LAST WEEKS WIN IN UK.

Fresh from their victory last weekend at the Pro Academy tournament in England our under 10A stayed closer to home this weekend taking part in and winning the Corduff FC Easter Tournament.

Again well done to all the squad and the management team.

Our under 10.1 team paid a one day visit to St Albans in Hertfordshire to take part in the Pro Academy Tournament.

They went undefeated in their six group games topping the group which included Leyton Orient and Walsall among others so therefore guaranteeing them a bye into the semi final where they defeated MK Dons.

In the final they beat TF360 Academy which was made up of players from top London clubs such as Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham.

Well done to all the squad and the management team Carl Merriman, Sharon Keating and Graham Mc Loughlin – a memorable achievement.

ANTO BROWNE RIP

We are saddened to hear of the passing yesterday in St John’s Hospice in London of Anto Browne brother of our under 11 manager Patsy and a member of the well known Browne family from Larkhill who have had ties with St Kevin’s Football Club since the 1960’s.

Anto will be sadly missed by his son James, twin sister Jacinta, brothers Patsy, Jimmy, Arthur, John and Brendan, nephews and nieces along with his best friend of many years Noel who had been a constant companion to him through his illness.

Anto’s cremation will take place in London in the coming weeks.

May he rest in peace.

WARD CROSS GRASS PITCHES CLOSED

Due to weather conditions today and with a blank fixture list for the weekend essential maintenance work will be carried out on the grass pitches in Ward Cross tomorrow and Friday and they will remain closed until Monday April 21st.

SFAI SEMI-FINALS UPDATE

The semi finals of the SFAI Cup and Trophy competitions sees three of our teams in action today.

In the under 15 Cup our under 15’s faced an early start towards the  Limerick / Kerry border to play Abbeyfeale United.

It turned out to be a typically tough cup semi-final tie that was only decided in the last ten minutes through goals from Cole Dillon and Martin Gomez to overcome the home sides resistance.

Templeogue United defeated Aisling Annacotty FC in the other semi-final.

In the SFAI Trophy our under 13’s were at home to Cork side Ringmahon Rangers and two goals in the first eight minutes from Alfie Dunne and Jamie Costigan from the penalty spot had them on the front foot and they eventually won 5-0 with second half goals from Jack Moore (2) and Mason O’Dowd.

Ashbourne United will be their final opponents.

The under 16’s made the journey to Carrick-on-Suir on the border of Tipperary and Waterford to play Carrick United in a game that turned out to be contentious and controversial – a right battle.

Mark Tierney’s team were three goals up through Jimmy Cassidy (2) and Tomas Stokas before controversary arose when Carrick United pulled a goal back and a player from each side was dismissed.

A chaotic final fifteen minutes saw the score cut to 3-2 and with 13 minutes additional time added on at the end this led to angry scenes at the finish but 3-2 it stayed and a place in the final secured.

The SKFC bus had windows broken and some parents cars were damaged which was not what one likes to witness at a schoolboy football game.
