(3) Top Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF were the opponents in the quarter final which again has a quick turn time scheduled for 6.30pm (local time) this evening.
Unfortunately it was a bridge too far with the stylish Spanish outfit running out convincing winners on a 5-1 score line.
The tournament was a great experience for the players and management as the opposition they encountered against the top Spanish La Liga Academy teams is a step above what the meet on a weekly basis and is an indication of the level that players need to reach if they hope to have a career in the game.
(2) The final group game was early this afternoon against Cleo Junior Selection which resulted in a comfortable 3-0 and a place in the last 16 of the tournament.
The postponement of games from Thursday and yesterday resulted in a much tighter schedule today and just a two hour turnaround before the last 16 game against CE Hospitalet.
This was a much closer tighter affair with neither side managing a breakthrough in normal time and the penalty shoot out saw the lads score all three penalties to move into the quarter final on a 3-2 score line.
(1) Flight delays and games postponements due to a status RED weather warning of high winds and heavy rain was the backdrop to our Under 13 premier teams participation in this years Carnaval Cup in Barcelona – an important tournament that we have participated in for the past 12 years.
They played their opening two games today and remain unbeaten with an 8-0 win over C E Cambrils and a well deserved 1-1 draw against FC Barcelona.
Photo shows both teams together at the end of the game – the conditions speak for themselves!!
Continued good luck to the squad and management group Joe Quinn, Paul O’Brien and Darren Dunne.
An important weekend of SKFC cup ties got off to a great start on Friday night with our under 17 premier side recording a 4-0 win over Raheny United at St Aidan’s with 2 goals each from Cian Smith and Danny Reay.

Three of our premier teams – 12 Premier, 13 Premier and 15 Premier qualified for the last 32 open draws in their respective SFAI Cup competitions joining our already qualified under 15 Major team.
Photo shows Max Glogowski who scored a hat trick in the 13 Premier teams SFAI Cup win v Shelbourne FC.
They hopefully will be joined by our under 14 premier when they play their final Dublin section games against Leixlip United next Saturday.
The opposition for our teams in the next rounds are as follows:
12 Premier home v Carrigaline United
13 Premier home v Burrin Celtic FC
14 Premier / Leixlip United away v Home Farm FC
15 Premier home v Carrick Rovers or Killylough FC
15 Major home v Donacarney Celtic
16 Premier home v Killarney Athletic
Ties to be played on the weekend of February 7th & 8th.

Transfer activity during the January window in the UK saw three ex SKFC players join new clubs with Ryan Graydon going from Fleetwood Town to Salford City.
Luke Browne who was on loan from Crystal Palace to Shelbourne has signed for Notts County and hopefully he is over the series of injuries that has plagued him for the last two seasons.
Sam Curtis who has had loan spells in Scotland and at Peterborough United from Sheffield United has signed for Chesterfield FC.
Gavin Kilkenny who has been in top form for Swindon Town since joining them from Bournemouth has agreed a new long term contract with Swindon.
We wish them all the very best of luck with their moves and careers going forward.
A lot of Christmas hangovers were run off yesterday morning when plenty of club personnel turned out in the annual SKFC Christmas Charity game at Shanowen Road.
A feature of yesterdays game was the Dunne father and son duo lining out together on the same team with the bragging rights on this occasion going to son Alfie who overshadowed Dad Darren and ended up being awarded the Man of the Match Golden Boot award.
He joins the “illustrious” list of SKFC legends who have been honoured with this award over the years.
Thanks to all who turned out and made it a great success with all proceeds going to a deserved charity.
Thanks also to Donie Bermingham and Ciaran Heffernan for doing a top job in again organising the event.

Update – our under 12 Premier side went down by the narrowest of margins to FC Barcelona 1-0 in this mornings Cruyff Cup semi final in Salou.
They play Getafe CF in the 3rd/4th playoff later this morning.
While most football in this country has ground to a halt due to the incessant rainfall our under 12 Premier team have been taking part in the Cruyff Tournament in CE Futbol Salou in sunny Spain.
They have been playing really well all through the Tournament and have reached the semi final where they will face FC Barcelona tomorrow morning at 9.30am.
Ajax and Getafe CF are paired in the other semi final also at 9.30am.
Best of luck boys.
Despite the downpour this morning most of the SFAI cup and trophy ties involving SKFC went ahead and the games produced some excellent performances and results.
In the under 12 National Cup our under 12 Premier team turned a 2-0 league defeat away to Shamrock Rovers a fortnight ago into a 2-1 cup win today and move into the next round.
Not so fortunate were our under 11A side who were playing up a year – they went down 5-1 away to Mount Merrion under 12 Premier side.
Our Under 12.2 Sunday travelled to Cabinteely in the SFAI Trophy and a fine performance saw them win 3-1.
The under 13 Premier team returned to Pearse Park in Crumlin for the replay of the original National Cup tie which was abandoned out there a fortnight ago due to a serious knee injury to Jake Kavanagh with the score at 1-1. Today’s game was equally close with a late second half penalty giving us a 2-1 win.
Our Under 13 Major game in the SFAI Trophy was played in atrocious conditions at St.Aidan’s and credit to both teams for the game they provided with a goal in extra time giving Glasnevin a 3-2 win.
The Under 13 Sunday 1 SFAI Cup game away to Home Farm was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
It took a long time for our Under 14 Premier team to get going in their National Cup game at Shanowen Road against Park Celtic but a strong second half performance saw them advance on a 6-1 scoreline.
Sundrive Park was another ground that was unplayable this morning, as was the majority of grass pitches in the city, so the 15 Premier SFAI Cup game against Lourdes Celtic was a casualty of the weather.
Also in the Under 15 Cup our Under 15 Major 1 team kept their interest alive in the competition with a fine win against premier league opponents away to Arthur Griffith Park. 2-2 at the end of extra time they prevailed 5-4 in the shoot-out.
Everyone at St. Kevin’s Football Club would like to wish our under 13 premier player Jake Kavanagh a speedy return to fitness following his unfortunate knee injury this afternoon in the SFAI Cup game against Crumlin United in Pearse Park which resulted in the game being abandoned late in the first half.
Thanks to the staff at Crumlin United who made Jake as comfortable as possible while awaiting the ambulance and to the ambulance paramedics who attended and who eased his pain before removing him to Crumlin Hospital.
We hope to see Jake back in action better than ever in the New Year.
